Contemporary printmaking has accepted the concept of "accident", not as a working stra-tegy, but rather as a possible element of a plastic work.
Engraving, which was the art of technicality, has found in this notion the means to trans-cend it.
Clarisse THOMAS took as her starting point a trip to Lisbon, which she visited three times, at three different ages, surrounded by different people.
Her subject is not Lisbon, of course.
The subject is the question of memory. What is it, what do we do with it, what remains of it?
She has chosen printed images and photography as her mediums.
Her playground was the copper plate. Once printed, they were exhibited like the stigmata of a reality that has happened.
Each of these media will speak differently of memory. Japanese paper, the fragility of time, a support for the trace left by the ink deposited in the hollow of the copper. The multigrade RC paper where the black takes shape.
A concise work, where each element forms a sum, the sum of the time that is counted to us.
