Interreg V B North West Europe "Climate Active Neighbourhoods"

The "Climate Active Neighbourhoods" project (2016 – 2019) is a European project financed as part of the Interreg V B North West Europe programme.
The total budget for the project amounts to 7,834,001.18 euros (of which 60% was subsidised by FEDER).
The 10 partners on the project are:

  • Climate Alliance (lead partner)
  • Amicus Horizon (Hastings – Great Britain)
  • The City of Plymouth (Great Britain)
  • The City of Arnhem (Netherlands)
  • Brest Métropole (France)
  • The Mantois Seine-Aval public planning organisation (France)
  • The City of Essen (Germany)
  • The City of Worms (Germany)
  • The Energieagentur Rheinland Pfalz (Germany)
  • Liège Energie and the City of Liège

The operators are funded to the tune of 60% by the Interreg programme and 30% by the Walloon Region (DG04). The amount for Liège totals 836,919.36 euros.

Thanks to the experience obtained on previous Interreg programmes, the City of Liège is able to provide administrative support as well as linguistic aid.

The project aims to contribute to reducing CO2 emissions in the urban areas of NWE and meets the reduction goals set by the EU for 2030/2050.

CAN intends to reinforce the capacities of the local authorities in implementing their low-carbon strategies by creating local schemes in the districts that use the most energy as well as in the most under-privileged ones. New models of governance will make it possible to be collectively responsible: citizens, associations, institutions, elected representatives... thanks to the elaboration of diversified actions based on the bottom-up concept and implementation of innovative financing models.
