Abidjan [Ivory Coast]

Abidjan, a cosmopolitan city of Sub-Saharan Africa, is the economic capital of the Ivory Coast, has a population of five million inhabitants and a surface area of 2,119 km², i.e. 0,6% of the national territory. Its population is divided among the thirteen municipalities which it comprises: Abobo, Adjamé, Anyama, Attécoubé, Bingerville, Cocody, Koumassi, Marcory, Plateau, Port bouët, Treichville, Songon and Yopougon.

Abidjan is the veritable economic heart and soul of the country and plays host to the majority of companies in all activity sectors. For the moment, it is still home to all the institutions of the Republic, pending the effective transfer of the administrative and political capital to Yamoussoukro.

ROBERT BEUGRE MAMBE is the Governer since 4th May 2011. He is also Vice-President of the AIMF (Association Internationale des Maires Francophones - the international association of French-speaking mayors).
