Cossed by the Pô River and bordered by the Alps, Turin, the administrative centre of the Piedmont region, is the 4th biggest city in Italy with a population of more than 850,000 and an urban area that numbers more than 1,700,000 inhabitants.

It is also a renowned economic and industrial driving force in a wide range of domains (automobile, railway construction, insurance, banking, road transport and the food industry).

Its rich past and current assets have made it a remarkable centre for art and culture (the capital of design, the National Film Festival and Museum, International Book Festival, Egyptian Museum, Automobile Museum, Unification Museum, master-pieces of baroque architecture, the Turin Shroud, etc.).

Liège and Turin

Twinned with in 1958, on the signing of the Treaties of Rome that founded the European Economic Community, Turin has associated Liège with the major international events it has hosted (the Winter Olympics in 2006 – World Book Capital in 2007, etc.).

With Lille, the two cities exchange feedback on integration of women immigrants as part of the LEILA project.

Exchanges concerning integration of first arrival pupils in the two cities are also in progress.
